Abrasive Waterjet Peening with Elastic Prestress: Subsurface Residual Stress Distribution
Recent advances in abrasive waterjet (AWJ) technology have resulted in new processes for surface treatment that are capable of introducing compressive residual stresses with simultaneous changes in the surface texture. While the surface residual stress resulting from AWJ peening has been examined, the subsurface residual stress field resulting from this process has not been evaluated. In the pr...
متن کاملThe Examination of Residual
SUMMARY Linear and squared residual plots are proposed to assess nonlinearity and heteroscedasticity in regression diagnostics. It is shown that linear residual plots are useful for diagnosing nonlinearity and squared residual plots are powerful for detecting nonconstant variance. A paradigm for the graphical interpretation of residual plots is presented.
متن کاملMapping the cytoskeletal prestress.
Cell mechanical properties on a whole cell basis have been widely studied, whereas local intracellular variations have been less well characterized and are poorly understood. To fill this gap, here we provide detailed intracellular maps of regional cytoskeleton (CSK) stiffness, loss tangent, and rate of structural rearrangements, as well as their relationships to the underlying regional F-actin...

Title of dissertation: Residual Arnoldi Methods : Theory, Package, and Experiments Che-Rung Lee, Doctor of Philosophy, 2007 Dissertation directed by: Professor G.W. Stewart Department of Computer Science This thesis is concerned with the solution of large-scale eigenvalue problems. Although there are good algorithms for solving small dense eigenvalue problems, the large-scale eigenproblem has m...
متن کاملPrestress for Maximum Strength
The problem of designing prestress to maximize elastic capacity is treated analytically. Our formulation models structures comprised of a one-material elastic continuum, subject to a single deterministic load configuration. The equations needed to predict the optimal prestress design are derived. They are shown to comprise necessary and sufficient conditions for global maximum strength in the u...
